UPLAND is currently developing downtown facade guidelines and providing design advisory services to the Town of Channel – Port aux Basques in Newfoundland. The work will allow the Town to carry on with the downtown improvement strategy, which was developed during the award-winning Downtown Design Study process in 2012. The facade guidelines and associated design advisory services will enable the Town to implement a tangible facade improvement program resulting in attractive storefronts that reflect the history and heritage of Channel - Port of aux Basques.
Prior to starting UPLAND, its founding partners prepared the Port aux Basques Downtown Design Plan which delivered a visionary and implementable plan that builds on the community’s enduring qualities. The Plan won a 2013 Award for Planning Excellence by the Canadian Institute of Planners. In 2015 UPLAND continued working with the Town and developed a new town brand - one that encapsulates the town’s energy and essence and avoids tired clichés and modest understatements. The new brand communicates the town's values and aesthetic features to help convey a growing sense of optimism, improve the marketability of the town, and strengthen community pride
